Researching the history of world war 1
2018 will be the year in which we remember 100 years since the end of the First World War.
For our 2018 Telephone Box Exhibitions we are planning to commemorate the lives of the men from St Just and St Mawes who lost their lives in the First World War. We are hoping that the existing families of those men will be able to help us. We will need information about their regiments, the medals they were awarded, where they served, which battles they fought in, where they died and photographs of them if at all possible. These are the names:-
James Benny, James Arthur Blamey, Harry Blight, JA Butchford, RJ Butchford, T Christiania, William Code, William Cocking, Arthur John Dobson, William George Edwards, J Edwards, Irving Emmanuel Green, Issac Fleetwood German, Sydney Hearne, Herbert Eric Fleetwood Jenking, EA Kendell, Alfred James Lawrence, James Lelean, John Mitchell, Nicholas Odgers, Edward Peel, John Vercoe Rogers, Earnest Sparkes, W Thomas, Samuel John Tiddy, R Trevarthan
Also, we would like information about any other men and women from the parish who survived or were involved in support, non - combat roles. We have a Role of Honour with a long list of individually signed names. We would love to have stories of their work in hospitals or in the war office, of events or incidents related to the war which took place in the parish during the 1914 - 1918 period.
If you are able to help us with any information please ring Alan 01326 270 381 or Jenny 01326 270 113 or Peter 01326 270 472
Thank you.
